Who is Rachel Cross?
Hi, I’m Rachel Cross, a doctoral extern in clinical psychology. I believe therapy is a place where people can feel seen with compassion, understood in context, and supported as they begin to make meaning of what they have survived. Many people come to therapy carrying pain that has shaped how they see themselves, relate to others, or move through the world. My goal is to create a space that feels grounded, collaborative, and respectful, where clients can explore their experiences at a pace that feels safe and meaningful.
My clinical interests include trauma, PTSD, complex trauma, domestic violence, women’s issues, grief, relationship concerns, and working with gender and sexual minorities. I enjoy working with teens, adults, and older adults as they navigate life transitions, relational patterns, identity, loss, and healing from painful or overwhelming experiences.
My therapeutic style is warm, curious, and trauma-informed. I value the importance of understanding symptoms within the larger story of a person’s life, relationships, culture, and lived experiences. I also believe therapy can help people reconnect with their strengths, deepen self-understanding, and build new ways of responding to themselves and others with more clarity, confidence, and compassion. I am also a United States Air Force veteran who served for eight years working on the flightline. I have great respect for my time in service, and what I have come to value most in the years since is the ability to make meaning from experience, especially the parts of life that challenge, shape, and transform us.
Outside of my clinical work, I am a sculptor and artist. My experience with art has shaped my belief that creativity can serve as another form of communication, one that allows people to express emotion, identity, and lived experience without needing to rely on words alone. My creative work is deeply connected to the way I understand emotion, resilience, and human experience.
Specialties
Trauma, PTSD, and Complex Trauma
I am especially interested in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, interpersonal violence, abuse, and complex relational wounds. I approach trauma work with sensitivity to how painful experiences can affect identity, attachment, emotional regulation, trust, and relationships.
Women’s Issues and Domestic Violence
I have a strong interest in supporting women and all survivors of domestic violence as they work toward safety, empowerment, self-understanding, and healing. I am passionate about helping clients recognize their resilience while also honoring the real impact of what they have endured.
Gender and Sexual Minorities
I am committed to providing affirming care for LGBTQ+ clients and other gender and sexual minorities. I strive to offer a therapeutic space where identity is respected, complexity is welcomed, and clients can explore concerns related to identity, relationships, trauma, or life stress without judgment.
Grief and Relationships
I also enjoy working with clients navigating grief and relational distress. I believe relationships often hold both our deepest wounds and our greatest opportunities for healing, connection, and growth.
